Well, at long last, snow has found its way to my corner of England.

It's a blizzard here, not much coverage, but looking out the window tells a story; snow is falling sideways right now, it's drifting something fierce wherever there's a sheltered corner, but at most it's a few inches everywhere else.

And what did our dear County Council not do? Right. They didn't grit the main north-south road through this side of their county linking some of their biggest towns and goes right through the town that houses a depot for their gritting trucks.

So I, living only five short miles away from work, was obliged to at least attempt to get into work.

It was only the sense of accomplishment of having made it here, and the hard work we put in along the way, that made any of this worthwhile. At all.

I spent the better part of an hour with my feet buried in the side of the road forcing a dairy van, all one and a half tons of produce on board, from sliding side-ways into the ditch below me. I kept that van straight so it could get traction for three hundred yards up a snow-covered slope before any of the other drivers on the road thought 'oh, maybe we should go help that guy push so the rest of us can get up the hill too!'

This became a game of 'luckily/unluckily' very quickly.

Luckily, my heroism didn't go to waste, and seven other burly men jumped out and helped get it the rest of the way.

Unluckily for the van driver, though, he broke his van doing the last bit.

Luckily a tractor appeared with towing gear and a plow ready and willing.

Unluckily our car was still stopped on the road several hundred yards back.

Luckily the big man's an absolute legend and drove up the rest of the hill without getting stuck.

Unluckily I still had to push to keep him out of the ditch just like the van.

So! That was fun. I was so damn happy to have reached the top of the hill that I'm still smiling now, over an hour later. I'm also happily sitting in my t-shirt and jeans while everyone else around me has three layers on, since my blood got pumping so much from all the excercise and I'm temporarily immune to cold.

Hope everyone has a happy Snow Day! I'll be here, working away, making the gears turn.

Oh, and a cheap sled is all I need to get home again, too, so don't worry about that :floating:

Until next time!

If you're reading this, you're bored. That, or uncomfortably interested in who I am...

Long story short, ask me, I like telling people stories, and my own is quite a good one (if you're into comic tragedies and occasional deviations into Monty Python).

I'm no angel, but I keep the wings, just in case :floating:

Pretty much my reaction to it, too, but I couldn't have imagined a better move for them to make after the whole thing hit the fan :iconwesayplz:

Wait... didn't I imagine it? I think I told you that this would have been the best idea the subject came up... and now it's happened! I'm a prophet!!

Got a question, what font do you recommend for editorial notes on a comic?

You want something easily legible, probably sans-serif, a lot of people go with the slightly-cartoony ones to make thigns seem a little fun. If it was me... I'd browse through the archive on this site here: [link] and pick one that matched the overall mood of the comic. Right off the bat I like Bottle Rocket, although a more fantasy oriented one might have Dragon Bones. Like I say, depends on which style you're going for.

Just remember that, unlike the main comic, the text for your editorial has to be clear and easy to scan the eyes over for the main points, not make people's eyes hurt after a few sentences.

I used to use Anime Ace for the scanlations, I picked up Wild Words recently.

I used Lucida for the editorial notes, see [link] -- but not sure if I should use it in the future.

If you're stuck you could always fall back on Verdana, it's a nice, friendly font :floating:

Really, really rushed... But I liked it :floating:

Seven musical sections, the new blonde standard bearer characters, Derpy appearing at every opportunity (for the last time, as I hear it...) and to top it all off Celestia got a bigger hat.

But so, so, badly rushed to fit it into a twenty minute episode!! The essential plot set-up happens in a flash-back (the book, the spell, the switch), for crying out loud... then there's the super-quick resolve of the situation so that they can spend the rest of the time explaining just why they're making Twilight into an Alicorn (also there's top marks for the first Canon usage of that word, another score for the fans :floating: ).

I'm also disappointed at Twilight's outfit for the coronation, it just wasn't as well done as the other dresses have been so far, but that's just me being picky. Were it spread out into a double-episode hit, then I'd have really seen the fun parts of the sequence-of-events. A twenty minute ep of cutie-mark confusion, with the cliff-hanger of Alicorn transformation, then a twenty minute episode for the coronation, with fifteen minutes devoted to why she was now an alicorn.

Also, if Twilight could have worked in a 'suck it, Trixie' into her little balcony address, I wouldn't have complained XD

OH DEAR LORD so rushed. It ruined the entire episode. yay for music though my reactions were so so on the songs.

Morning in Ponyville reminded me so much of this it's almost not funny anymore XD [link]

and I Have to Find A Way was a tiny bit too "pop" for my tastes but otherwise... yaaay

Still, I somehow don't like the decision to make Twilight an alicorn. I can't put my finger on it but somehow the relationship between the Mane 6 has changed. So far, everyone of them brought something essential into the group. Suddenly, twilight embodies all 6 of their strengths, making the other 5 feel redundant. Maybe it's just me and my paranoia that every series drops heavily in quality after season 3. I hope the writers can destroy any of my suspicions upcoming season D:

I think the likeness to Hairspray, and half a dozen Disney films too... is Daniel Ingram's way of poking fun at the status-quo of show openings :floating:

And trust the writers! Actually, trust Tara. In Tara Strong we trust. Apparently she and Megan have been on Twitter reassuring us fans for a while now. They love the show as much as we do, so if there's something bad on the horizon we'll know just from their reactions. So far, they've been un-endingly positive; I'm staying positive too.

I saw your signature in your comment to my journal. Someone's been watching the FireFly TV series. :giggle: :meow: I can't blame you, I just finished watching it myself not that long ago. :D

I've been a Firefly fan for... hmmm... 2004 I think, back when I heard about this great show that got cancelled, a friend over in the US told me to pick up the DVDs as soon as I could. So I did. And I've watched it so many times since that I could probably quote you from any part of the show you'd care to name. Also, pick up Serenity if you haven't already, the movie picks up where the series would have ended, had it not been cancelled, so you've got a lot of questions that you have to guess the answers to. And... well... Yeah, I confess, discovering that it was being released in 2005, and the subsequent rush of fan-love that begot its creation... and then actually watching it? I cried. Manly tears of grief and joy and farewell.

I've watched both the TV series and the new Film, so I know what your talking about.. it's a shame the TV show was canceled... I would love to watch more episodes. Out of all the characters I would have to say Malcom Renolds and River Tam are my two favorite characters.

"there is nothing in the verse that can stop me." ~River Tam

Out of all of them... I have to say Book was the best for me, he's an old badass. And what's best out of that is that he's some ex-elite type of guy from the Alliance, regretted something he did in that life, and became a Shepherd to atone for it, so he's got some History behind him. With the capital H.

"Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin'?"
"Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."
